CAUGHT IN AMBER, 2001

Caught exquisitely in golden, but viscous amber, the substance became a honeyed shroud for many tiny creatures. Here it was a fly. These images themselves were also ‘caught’ in a viscous substance; oily etching inks. Gilbart occasionally produces small editions of etchings and aquatints using traditional printing methods that ‘trap’ the image in metal and then in oil.
